ServerVault Network

Network Topology and Administration

ServerVault is carrier neutral and has four different access points to the Internet. This provides our clients with the fastest routes through the Internet and eliminates the bottlenecks and single points of failure that occur with providers that utilize only their own backbone topology. Our route diversity enables us to mitigate risk associated with a single provider’s downtime, and also aids ServerVault in managing surges/capacity management in our network usage.

ServerVault’s network architecture ensures system isolation, so that there is no horizontal access between customer systems.

Other Key Network Features:
- Over 2.5Gbps available bandwidth
- Network entrances encased in armored conduit to ensure complete reliability, availability and protection of data/traffic.
- End-to-end redundancy from facility entrances through the core network infrastructure
- Failover between carriers (in case of fiber cut, etc. is < 35 ms)
- Full BGP info exchanged with each providers (a privilege reserved for network “insiders”
- Dark fiber loops are Gigabit/OC-192 capabile, and eliminate any interim providers between ServerVault and the Internet”

ServerVault has taken great pains to ensure that there is no single point of failure at any point in our network. Fiber rings enter via diverse underground armored terminating into two different vaults, and terminate into distinct optical chassis. Entrances into remote interconnect facilities is similarly diverse.

ServerVault leases dark fiber rings from multiple providers to provide redundant access to major Internet/Telecommunications interconnect points. ServerVault then installs DWDM (Dense Wave Digital Multiplexing) optical equipment and provisions services over these links. At present, ServerVault maintains GE (Gigabit Ethernet) connectivity to Abovenet/Reston and Equinix/Ashburn via three dedicated fiber rings. Each of the diverse dark fiber paths terminate into facilities that house multiple top-tier Internet Service Providers, with connection speeds up to Gigabit/OC-192 available. Via these interconnects, ServerVault exchanges full BGP routing information with multiple providers and utilizes a route optimization engine to manage performance to all Internet destinations. ServerVault also utilizes Keynote to provide continuous Internet-wide performance monitoring from 25 locations nationwide.

Due to use of our own fiber transport, ServerVault has the ability to activate higher capacity communications lines with a very short provisioning cycle. ServerVault’s capacility management has no single circuit operating at more than 40% utilization under normal operating conditions. This ensures more than adequate capacity to adapt to any conditions that may impact a single Internet provider.

Tiered Network Architecture

ServerVault’s proprietary network architecture offers unrivaled levels of security and reliability. And we have taken great pains to ensure that there is no single point of failure in our network. Our architecture is redundant in every physical and logical element—from edge routers to core switches—to ensure uninterrupted service.

Several components make up our ultra-secure, multi-tier network:
• Minimum Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantee of 99.99% on Internet availability and network uptime.
• Every customer receives enterprise-level packet filtering, anti-denial-of-service filtering, and traffic logging, for the edge of our backbone.
• At the core layer, ServerVault’s network offers redundant switching and routing, interior layer 3 switching, and access control lists per host group(s).
• ServerVault provides "single-host priority" access, in which each host on the network appears as if it is the only server on the network, allowing for the collection of per-host traffic statistics.
• ServerVault has integrated managed firewalls and distributed Intrusion Detection Systems which is deployed for all of ServerVault’s customers.
