Physical Security Services

ServerVault has deployed a multi-layer physical security system, which provides extreme protection for client systems at the Dulles facility. The site perimeter is secured via eight-foot steel fence and guarded entrance. ServerVault’s onsite 24-hour ServerVault Security Force manages all access to the compound, as well as monitoring pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) surveillance cameras covering the area between the building and the perimeter fence. Only approved and expected visitors during regular business hours are admitted to the compound, and only then allowed in the visitors conference room area, physically separate from ServerVault’s operational facilities.

Visitor access to the building is via dedicated secured entrance, which leads to the reception and conference area. Two-factor authentication (biometric and proximity card) is required for employees to enter the employee area of the building. Only ServerVault employees and investigated/approved third parties are allowed beyond the visitor/conference area of the data center. All physical access is constrained to the minimum access necessary for the performance of job duties. All security infrastructure (digital recording system, badge access system, password safe) is accessible only by the ServerVault Security Team.

The physical protection measures of the ServerVault facility, coupled with the ultra-redundant utility density provide guaranteed availability that is unequaled in the industry - ideal for Federal Agencies or commercial organizations who require stringent levels of compliance and accreditation.

Client applications are further protected by installation within the data vaults which provide unequalled protection from fire, moisture, smoke, water, and electromagnetic pulses.

The vaults are built to Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) standards set by the Department of Defense (DOD) and National Security Agency (NSA). Access to the vaults is controlled by two-factor biometric access controls and covered by dedicated security cameras. All access logs and video recordings are archived daily by the ServerVault Security Force.

For clients with even more stringent access requirements, ServerVault can restrict access to designated personnel with optional environment-specific access agreements and orientation processes. Restricted Access environments are deployed in locked racks controlled by SV Security Force and direct confirmed against the authorized list each time.

Power and Cooling

ServerVault’s power and cooling systems are highly redundant with 2N components for power and N+1 components for all key HVAC functions. Power is provided to the client’s environment via dual power drops; each drop is served from a distinct power distribution unit (PDU) that in turn is fed from two 800 KVA UPS systems. The UPS systems are double conversion systems that provide for power conditioning and load isolation, and thereby prevent any upstream fluctuations such as spikes or over voltage conditions from reaching client systems. The UPS systems are backed by a 2000KVA Caterpillar power generation system. In an event of a power failure, generated power can assume full load in 9 seconds or less.

ServerVault has developed a redundant HVAC system that provides for the highest level of reliability. Cooling is provided to the client’s environment via patented ducted racks that provide optimum cooling distribution. Cooling is provided through twelve (12) 20-ton computer-room air handling units distributed throughout the data vaults. Chilled water for the air-handling units is provided by a system of three (3) 102-ton rooftop chillers. At design load, two chillers handle cooling the vaulted areas with one in permanent standby mode.
